Hello WSU Vets!
This summer has been so much busier than I could have imagined. The last meeting of the Student Vets' Club that was scheduled for earlier this month has yet to be rescheduled due to my insane schedule. Over the next couple weeks I would like to schedule a meeting to talk about the fall semester. This will have to be my last meeting, as I am moving to Seattle in about 40 days.
Since the President of our Org. has left, we have yet to hold elections for the upcoming Fall '09 semester. Since we were still in the process of reorganizing and learning what we wanted out of our organization, those that take over for the Fall semester will need to be interested in building the organization from the ground up. We have worked with the Student Vets Organizations from around the state over the last couple years and helped to push this new post- 9/11 GI Bill, as well as working on in-state tuition rates for vets that are not MI residents.
The Student Vets' Org. at WSU can be anything you want it to be. We can continue to lobby for rights at the state level, as well as Participate at the National level. We can also be a social medium for veterans who are finding this transition into college to be a bit overwhelming with the age gap between us and the general student population. Just getting together and bonding over shared experiences can help assimilate into the campus population as well as letting the school know wjat we need and what they can do to help us.
With that, I ask for a few dedicated students to stand up and take over the Organization. I am open to all ideas for a meeting time, and as the only officer left, I don't want to see Wayne State lose this important student organization. I am open to an evening meeting, weekend meeting or any other ideas you may have. I do have classes most nights from 530 until 830, with fridays left open. If there are enough people willing to come but require different times, I am open to scheduling 2 separate meetings just to get us through the summer.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you! Have a safe and wonderful 4th of July!
